The problem

The project was born from my personal experience — as mealtime approached each day, I found myself constantly struggling with the daily dilemma of "What should I eat today?"

Verification Problem

To validate the universality of this dilemma, I conducted a lean validation survey collecting 51 valid responses. The data revealed that 80% of respondents regularly experience "meal decision paralysis", with 68% reporting associated stress during meal planning.

These insights exposed a critical opportunity: "Culinary inspiration deficit" isn't just personal frustration, but an emotional friction point in modern lifestyle ecosystems. This drove my design exploration focusing on cognitive load reduction and serendipitous food discovery through behavioral nudges.

Flavorflow inspires users to try new foods and enjoy the fun of daily meal choices.

Reducing decision fatigue by offering real-time meal inspiration and tailored recommendations.

Insights

I conducted a series of surveys and finally came up with four user needs:

Target User

My target users are those who don’t know what to cook every day and don’t know what to eat when they go out.

Design Goal

According to these research, I have three design targets

  1. Ingredient Selection and Dish Generation: Users can either click on ingredient boxes or search for specific ingredients to generate dish suggestions.

  1. Cooking Tutorials: Users can select a generated dish and navigate to a tutorial page to learn how to prepare it.

  1. Random Inspiration: Users can explore randomly generated dish ideas for spontaneous inspiration.

Next step

  1. Find what best way about filter function

  2. Add function that user can add ingredients to shopping list in video page

How I use AI

I made extensive use of ChatGPT during the research and summary stages to improve efficiency and spark ideas—for example, simulating user interviews in advance to design more targeted questions and uncover deeper insights.

Improve myself

I consistently stay updated with design trends, develop my aesthetic sense, and maintain a habit of planning, reflecting, and building a personal knowledge base to support my continuous growth in both life and professional skills.

Conclusion

What user research taught me

I noticed that users often don’t explicitly share useful information during interviews. This requires designers to dig deeper into their stories, analyze their responses, and interpret underlying needs. Empathizing with users and viewing situations from their perspective can lead to more valuable insights.

Additionally, during user testing, I observed that different users sometimes offered completely opposing opinions. This highlights the importance of making informed judgments based on thorough analysis and research. Strengthening this ability to balance user feedback with design decisions is an area I aim to improve.
